On The 2nd Day Of Christmas

My true love gave to me, Two Turtle Doves. In this case, two Chocolate Peppermint Turtle Doves. Here is another recipe from the cookie exchange. This one is from my friend Amie who is apparently BFF (best friends forever) with Betty Crocker. Very fun and festive recipe for the holiday season...Happy Christmas Eve Everyone!

Chocolate Peppermint Turtle Doves:

Ingredients:
1 ½ Cups powdered sugar
1 Cup butter, softened
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
1 Egg
1 Teaspoon baking soda
1 Teaspoon cream of tartar
2 ½ Cups all-purpose flour
½ Cup baking cocoa
1 Teaspoon mint extract
Green food coloring, about 5 drops

Mix powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, and egg in large bowl about five minutes. Stir baking soda, cream of tartar and ONLY 2 cups of flour. Divide dough in half. To 1st half mix in cocoa, set aside. To 2nd half add remaining ½ cup flour, mint, and food coloring. Dough will be soft, so you may need to refrigerate (1/2 to 2 hours). Roll together a handful of each dough on lightly floured surface then cut into desired shape. Bake 7-8 minutes at 375 degrees F (though my old stove took closer to 10 minutes).
