This past week I tried my hand at some art work for The Teen Project. I found this wonderful DIY Ombre Art from Danielle over at Danielle Oakey Interiors and decided to give it a try. I ended up making four of them for the center {red, blue, green, yellow}. I’m not sure where they will be hanging but as soon as they are up I will post a picture. Please let me know what you think or post a comment if you have any suggestions on how to make this project better…Happy Finding Your Inner Artist!
Materials Needed:
One Large Canvas – 30”x40”
One Paint Brush- I went with 1 ¼”
Red and white Fresco Tempera Paint
One mixing stick (I used a chop stick)
Seven Paper Plates
Extra: Measuring Tape and Masking Tape
(Side Note: I didn’t have to use gesso on my canvas since it already had gesso on it)
Step One:
Use the measuring tape to measure your starting and ending points of your brush strokes. Then use the masking tape to mark the measurements. I measured mine 3” in from the top and bottom and 2 ½” in from the sides.
Step Two:
Put a bit of red paint in your first paper plate. This will be your starting color. Start mixing the red and white paint together in the remaining six plates until you have seven plates with colors that go from dark to light. This is the tricky part. I started out with red on the first three plates and added drops of white until I saw a level of color difference in each plate. On the last four plates I started with white and then added drops of red until I saw a level of color difference. For my seventh plate I just did a tip of red.
Step Three:
This is the fun part! Starting with plate one, dip your paint brush into the paint and make a brush stroke at your starting point and one at your end point. Wash out your brush and let it dry for a bit and then repeat with plate two.
Step Four:
Repeat step three with plates three to six.
Step Five:
The color in your seventh plate will just be one brush stroke down the middle. It’s a VERY light color so you can also use it to blend the other strokes a little bit. And there you have it. You just made art!
Please let me know if you have any questions.
